A book called "The Smell of Death: A Manual of Mossad's Deadly Operations Inside Iran" has been published, claiming to cover the technical, intelligence, and operational details of Mossad's operations in Iran, including the 12-Day War.

Interestingly, there is no information on the author of this book, Isaac Goldstein, on Google Books and Amazon.

In his Friday prayer sermons in Mashhad, Ahmad Alam-ul-Huda, citing this book, claimed that the helicopter crash of the 13th president was a Mossad operation to assassinate him.

How was the operation carried out?

Disruption of the helicopter system: According to the book, the Bell 212 helicopters, which were Raisi's helicopters, rely on a set of electronic air navigation systems and sensors, and a government agent could have designed malware to infiltrate the system in advance and keep it inactive until the operation.

Electronic warfare: According to the book, in this method, a Mossad operational unit could deploy a GPS spoofing system at a secret location in Azerbaijan or via a drone over the Caspian Sea at operational range. The technology does not disrupt the signal, but rather spoofs it. The system would broadcast a stronger, fake GPS signal that would overwhelm the helicopter’s real signal, gradually causing it to deviate from its course.

Weather: According to the book, the final element of the operation was the environment. The Mossad’s weather department could provide an accurate forecast of the route and time frame, and could predict foggy conditions. Then the cyber or electronic manipulation could be timed to work on the flight.

The book states:

Immediately after the crash, the Mossad’s job was not to accept responsibility but to reinforce the narrative of the crash. Subtle hints could be spread through intelligence channels and allied media; reports about the age of the helicopter fleet, the shortage of spare parts due to sanctions, the pilot's hesitation to fly, and the dangers posed by the weather conditions in the region. The operation was designed to be covert.
