In the morning, we went by helicopters to the Aliabad Qom region for the 2002 Eghtedar (Power) maneuver. Army commanders were gathered. I visited the exhibition of reconstructed tanks and personnel carriers. They conducted the maneuver well; with reconnaissance and preparatory fire and attack by helicopters, engineering and support for personnel carriers, artillery, airborne, mass landing of paratroopers, and chemical defense. I gave an interview and arrived at my office at noon.
In the afternoon, Mr. [Mohammad Reza] Alborzi, our ambassador to Switzerland, came. He said that if we are not careful, the issue of human rights and the appointment of a special representative for Iran might be renewed, with the arrival of a representative on specific issues, such as women's rights. He brought a proposal from a Swiss intermediary that Russia has announced its readiness to give Iran Omgal missiles and 7,000-kilometer long-range ballistic missiles, which is unlikely. He had proposals regarding dealing with the issue of Iraq and the quality of work of the Supreme Council [of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq].
