Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – September 29, 1982

I studied at home until ten o'clock. The children went to school, and Faezeh and our housekeeper Mrs. Fatemeh went to Fati's house to clean it, as Fati will soon return from the Hajj. At ten-thirty I went to Parliament. Mr. [Morteza] Alviri, who had come from Italy, gave a report on the state of the Inter-Parliamentary Conference. Mr. [Mohammad] Yazdi, who had returned from the front, gave a report on the front and the requests of the fighters.

A man came claiming to know about a treasure and wanted permission to excavate; I told him to submit a written request. Two or three members of the parliamentary staff came with requests. In the afternoon, a group of Kerman's executive officials came, who are from Kerman's academic community; they were upset that they had been accused of the academic community being monopolistic and taking over the province's affairs.

A group of the families of the martyrs of Vahidieh and the Armenian martyrs came, and I spoke to them. They have established a center for guiding and educating the families of martyrs in the neighborhood, and the Armenian priests and clerics gave reports. A number of university professors came and shared their views about Islamic Azad University. I did an interview with the Future Builders program about the translation of the history of Palestine. A group of bazaar merchants came and had many objections to the performance of those implementing the Industries Protection Law and its regulations, as well as the violations committed by Bani-Sadr and the Revolutionary Council.

At night, at Mr. Khamenei's office, we held a meeting with Mr. [Mohammad Hassan] Taheri Khorramabadi—who is leaving for Pakistan as the Imam's representative—to determine the policy for his activities in Pakistan. We had dinner and I came home. Effat had called to say she would come on Saturday. Yaser developed an earache and woke us up. He took a painkiller and went back to sleep.
