Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – September 27, 1982

Today I rested at home. Before noon, Mr. Mohammadi, the Friday prayer leader of Ilam, came and complained about the governor of Ilam and the fact that title deeds were not being issued for the lands that the underprivileged had taken and built on after the Revolution.

I spoke with Mr. Khamenei by phone so that the Supreme Defense Council would instruct the Air Force to give one Oerlikon battery (anti-aircraft gun) to the Ground Forces for defense on the front lines. Recently, Iraq bombed our forces in the west with aircraft, and six people were martyred.

Reports say that because of the activation and coordination of the Revolutionary Guard, the Prosecutor's Office, and the Committees, the counterrevolution has been dealt a blow, the number of assassinations has declined, and in contrast, the number of terrorist arrests has increased.

In the afternoon, Engineer Javad [Madarshahi] and Habib, who had gone to Pakistan to obtain information from an informed individual, came and reported the interesting and useful information they had obtained from him—about the activities of the KGB, the Tudeh Party, and the Soviet Union's future policy toward Iran. At night, Mr. [Reza] Seifollahi from the Revolutionary Guard Intelligence came and reported a major blow that the Mojahedin had suffered in Rasht over the past two or three days; nearly fifty of their members had been killed or arrested. Mr. Sayyad Shirazi called from the front and requested that the delivery of the Oerlikons be expedited, and gave news of an imminent attack.
