Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – October 26, 1986

We closed the parliament in consideration of the delegation's trip in Arbaeen. I was supposed to visit the subway workshops, but because the drilling machines were not ready, they delayed it.

I came to the parliament on time. I talked to Mr. Ray Shahri, who was going to serve the Imam, about the result of my negotiations with the Imam yesterday, and I also warned him about raising the issue of military security and information. After the meeting, he informed that the imam is serious about the pursuit of Seyyed Mehdi Hashemi's group, and regarding the protection of information, they agree that it should be under the supervision of the Minister of Information - secretly. The president previously disagreed with this opinion.

Mr. [Rasul] Mutjab Nia [representative of the Imam's advisory office in the army in Khark Island] came. He gave a report on the situation of Fars defense and needs. The rules of the parliament came. In order to get the closed-circuit television of the palace, Niavaran appealed to the protection of the parliament. I warned Dr. [Mohammed] Farhadi [Minister of Culture and Higher Education].

Our ambassador came from Japan. The report stated the situation there and emphasized that it is better to carry out the promised operation sooner. Mr. [Mohammed Jaafar] Saidi [Yan Far], the representative of [Khomeini Shahr] came. He is worried about the issue of Seyyed Mehdi Hashemi and the fact that foreign radios consider him among the detainees. Mr. Fazel Harandi came, he expressed his concern about the possible harm that may be caused to Mr. Montazeri in the matter of Seyyed Mahdi, because of his stance against the order of the Imam, and he quoted examples of the opinions of some of his staunch supporters. Mr. [Mohammed Hasan] Akhtri, our ambassador in Syria, came with Mahmoud's brother. They gave a report on the situation in Lebanon and Syria. They consulted about the members of the Lebanese Council. They demanded additional oil for Syria.

In the evening, four students of Shahid Motahari High School, who participated in the conquest operation, came. They said the weaknesses of the operation and emphasized more on the weaknesses of management and command.

Mr. Raiszadeh came. He provided analyzes for current issues, including the arrest of Seyyed Mehdi Hashemi and Ayatollah Montazeri's reaction. Mr. Mousavian, the head of the parliament's departments, came. He presented his social political opinions and line.
