Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi - December 6, 2001

Masih Mohajeri's consultation on the situation in Afghanistan and events related to the judiciary and the Khorasan newspaper.

Masih Mohajeri's consultation on the situation in Afghanistan and events related to the judiciary and the Khorasan newspaper.
His reluctance to accept the decree of the head of the board of trustees of the Khorasan newspaper, signed by Mohammadi Golpaygani, the head of Ayatollah Khamenei's office, and the expectation of a direct ruling from the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic is interesting.
The Khorasan newspaper is the oldest local newspaper in Iran, which has now become a national newspaper and the first newspaper was published on June 22, 1929, and continued its work until a year after the victory of the revolution under the former management, but in June 1980, in favor of Note 82 of the Prime Minister's Office, it was confiscated and handed over to the Mostazafan Foundation, and in 1989, the owner of the newspaper was changed and issued under the name of the Martyr's Foundation.
In 1986, Seyyed Abolfazl Mousavian and in 1991, Hossein Ghazali, the cultural deputy of this foundation, became the editor-in-chief of this newspaper, but in 2001, the newspaper became under the auspices of the office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, and the Khorasan Cultural and Art Institute was registered with the formation of a board of trustees consisting of Masih Mohajeri, Mahdavi Adeli, Razmi, Hossein Ghazali, and Mohammad Saeed Ahadian, and Kourosh Shojaei became the managing director and Mahdavi Adeli became the managing director of the institute.

Full text of the diary:
Mr. Masih Mohajeri, [the president's social advisor and editor-in-chief of the Jomhuri Eslami newspaper] came. He had articles on the issues of Afghanistan, the judiciary and the Khorasan newspaper. On the orders of the Supreme Leader, the situation of the Khorasan newspaper has been investigated, and the result has been that a board of trustees has been formed to determine the supervision and policy of the newspaper under the chairmanship of Mr. [Hossein] Ghazali, [the editor-in-chief of the Khorasan newspaper], and the newspaper is separated from the [Imam Khomeini] Relief Committee. Mr. Mohajeri has been appointed as the chairman of the board of trustees, but since his decree is signed by Mr. [Gholamhossein] Mohammadi Golpayegani [the head of the Supreme Leader's office], he does not want to accept it, and he expects the leadership to give a ruling.
Mr. [Seyyed Reza] Zavara'i, [a member of the Guardian Council], came. He spoke about the three-point plan [to amend the electoral law] and also about the misconduct of the government and the parliament. Mr. [Ibrahim] Madahi, [Deputy Secretary of the Expediency Council for Parliamentary Affairs] and Mr. Bahmani, [the Assembly's expert] came. They wanted the people from the Assembly who are the liaison with the three branches of government to be able to contact me more so that they could know the policy of the Assembly and reflect their demands to me, and they expected to participate in the meetings of the Assembly as well.
In the evening, the reciters of the Qur'an came. A number of good reciters, including two reciters from Egypt, read the Qur'an, and two young girls who memorized the Qur'an answered the questions of the audience. I also had a short talk about the Qur'an.  The program was broadcast live on the Quran Television Channel. After the congregational prayer, we broke our fast together and gifts were given. Mr. [Ibrahim] Amini had also come from Qom to attend the assembly meeting, and he was also at our iftar. In addition, they raised some considerations about the agenda of the meeting.
Ultimately, the meeting of the Discernment Council was held to resolve the dispute between the Guardian Council and the Majles, and with the opinion of Ayatollah Khamenei and other consultations, a decision was issued in favor of the Guardian Council, and this decision was so important that Hashemi personally edited the Assembly's communiqué.
In this historic meeting, which lasted for four hours, in addition to the heads of the three branches and the majority of the members of the Assembly, representatives of the Parliament and the Minister of Interior were present, and the report of the Political, Defense and Security Commission of the Assembly was first informed to the members.

Then, the secretary of the Guardian Council, Sheikh Mehdi Karroubi, and Sheikh Majid Ansari expressed their views, and Interior Minister Mousavi Lari presented his arguments regarding the addition of three notes to Article 52 of the Parliamentary Election Law.
Ultimately, the members of the Assembly, with a majority of votes, did not see the need for a new resolution regarding disqualified candidates in 1999, and did not see the need for another resolution that the Guardian Council considered to be contrary to Sharia and the Constitution, and for this reason, the elections in Golestan province were scheduled to be held on November 30, 2001.
At 6:30 p.m., the meeting of the [Expediency Council] began. We had a serious discussion for four hours about the three-emergency bill of the parliament regarding the qualifications of election candidates, which was rejected by the Guardian Council. The parliamentarians want to limit the right to qualify or disqualify the Guardian Council. Messrs. [Seyyed Mohammad] Khatami, [Mehdi] Karroubi, Engineer [Mir Hossein] Mousavi, and Majid Ansari had detailed speeches, and the answers of the Guardian Council and the Commission were good. Only six people voted in favor of the Majlis.
I have amended the text of the news [today's meeting] of the assembly. This is a sensitive and important issue. Domestic and foreign political circles are looking forward to the results of tonight's meeting of the Assembly, and we have exciting discussions ahead of us, although the Assembly says that the same previous resolution of the Assembly can satisfy the Assembly's opinion, but it is clear that they will not be convinced and there is a possibility of a referendum.
The Bonn Conference on Afghanistan began today. It seems that the United Nations and the Westerners are moving forward with a plan, and it was announced that during the Taliban insurgency in the war fortress of Mazar-e-Sharif, 1500 of them were killed, mainly as a result of the American bombing, and this could be a disgrace for the United States, although no one is following up in these circumstances.
In Palestine, in northern Israel, an armed attack wounded a large number of Israelis and killed two people in revenge for the blood of Abu al-Nahur.
