Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – November 22, 1983

I went to the assembly early in the morning. I read the reports. One of our ships has been attacked and sunk in the Persian Gulf region. Iraq is claimed to have hit seven ships. In the afternoon, a joint meeting of the board of directors of the center [representatives of the member parliament of the Islamic Republic Party] and the heads of the party's districts was held in my office. The membership of several representatives was approved. A group came from Qahdarijan and wanted to play the role of the IRGC and change the name of the place. A person from the prime minister's information came and said something about sectarianism there.

In the evening, Mr. Garami came from Qom. He criticized extremism and discrimination in the Hajj journey and announced his readiness for cooperation in the future. Airline staff [Islamic Republic of "Homa"] who were active in connection with the Hajj journey, came and gave a report of the successes. I also spoke to them in detail. Mr. [Mohsen] Kangerlu and his friends came to "Fajr Islam Organization". They asked for help for the organization. They are a good group, but weak and without facilities.

On the first night, we had a meeting with the president about the air force and the new ministers. We consulted. Agreement and understanding for the selection of new ministers with the prime minister has become difficult. The central council [community] of militant clergy [Tehran] had a meeting for the candidates of the upcoming parliament. We had dinner in the president's office and I came home. Efat and Yasser had gone to Esteghlal Hotel to meet the guests of the medical seminar. They came late.
