We discussed and made a decision about the security of the east of the country. Mr. Velayati [Minister of Foreign Affairs] was supposed to go to Iraq. It was reported that Iraq has rejected the plan of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood regarding the replacement of Iranian forces in Kuwait and the withdrawal of Iraq and the holding of elections in Kuwait. It was clear that he would not accept it. In order to complete the proof against the Brotherhood, we agreed that they should follow.
At three in the afternoon, we went to Mehrabad Airport to welcome Mr. Turgut Özal, the President of Türkiye. An official ceremony was held. He and I interviewed. The topics of negotiation were almost all necessary matters, including regional issues, the Persian Gulf crisis, the issues of two countries and ECO. There will be pressure for Saddam's successors to shrink the Iraqi army and destroy chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, and the recent resolution of the Security Council regarding the exchange of damages is for this reason to continue the fence in case of retreat.
He clarified that Türkiye has no intention of Kirkuk, but he advised us to seize Majnoon Island in case of Iraq's chaos, to take the war damages. He said, except for France, all the effective countries are involved in the US military operations.
Regarding the future of Iraq and the region, it was negotiated and agreed on not allowing the formation of an independent Kurdish government in northern Iraq, maintaining the territorial integrity of Iraq, the democracy of the countries south of the Persian Gulf in the future, strengthening ECO and also establishing a gas pipeline from Iran to Europe through Turkey.
Mr. Ozal flew to Japan at 10:30 PM with escort and interview. I came home and slept.
