Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – May 23, 1983

I was at home until three in the afternoon. I was studying and resting. Because the water of the Karaj Dam had become muddy as a result of the recent floods, the water supply has been cut off. Ahmad Aqa called and asked me to pursue the Imam's views in my speeches. Mr. [Seyyed Hossein] Mousavi [Tabrizi], the [General] Prosecutor of the Revolution, came and was asking about the policy for the trial of the leaders of the Tudeh Party. He complained about the overlapping duties of the Revolutionary Guards and the Prosecutor's Office.

Ahmad Aqa came and complained about the secretary of the Islamic Republic Party in Khomein. He said that the Imam had approved of the television serial «Crocodile Tears» and that they should not have removed it. I said that in such matters, which opponents object to on religious grounds, the Imam himself should clarify the matter.

At three in the afternoon, I went to the Majlis. We had a meeting of the Internal Regulations Commission. Then Mr. [Abolhassan] Alami, head of Branch 12 of the Supreme Court, came and spoke about the disorder at the airports. I had a meeting with officials responsible for overseas affairs and with the news and information officials of IRIB, and spoke to them at length about sound conduct, integrity, and truthfulness. The mother and sister of the martyr [Hassan] Ejarehdar came and requested permission to travel to Hajj and Syria. The Iranian ambassadors to Nicaragua, North Korea, and Switzerland came and gave reports on the countries where they were stationed and the nature of the relations; we discussed them. At night, we had a meeting of the Supreme Defense Council. Most of the discussion was about the Army's Intelligence Protection Organization. [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei gave an interview; since he had said nothing about the war in the previous Friday prayer and the people had expected it, he made up for it with this interview. I slept at the Majlis that night.
