First thing in the morning, I obtained news from the front. They reported that they launched the operation last night, captured the Khorramshahr-Shalamcheh road, and are advancing toward the Umm al-Rasas bridge.

At seven o'clock, I went to the open session of Parliament. News of the operation to retake Khorramshahr had spread throughout Parliament, and everyone was happy. During the break, I contacted the front. It became clear that Khorramshahr was completely surrounded and the enemy was surrendering. After the break, I congratulated everyone on this victory at the beginning of the session and commended the combatants. Until nightfall, news consistently arrived regarding the multitude of prisoners and the scarcity of our martyrs. The enemy suffered heavy casualties in dead and wounded and left behind abundant spoils.

In the afternoon, I attended the Central Council meeting of the [Islamic] Republican Party. It was approved that Ahmad Aqa Khomeini—who had requested cooperation with the party—be accepted as a member of the council.

At night, the consultative meeting of the heads of the three branches was held at Mr. Khamenei's office. Colonel Moein-Pour, the Commander of the Air Force, had resigned, and it was decided that we would not accept it. We also discussed the situation at the front and the future of the war. I had dinner right there and went to Parliament to sleep. I received the latest news from the front. It became clear that Khorramshahr was completely surrounded, and thousands of the enemy had been killed or captured in the process, but the Iraqis are broadcasting false news.
