Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – May 1, 1983

I went to the parliament early in the morning. Before the [start of the] session, I read the reports and took care of the administrative work. Before the agenda, I referred to Workers' Day, Teachers' Day, and the martyrdom of Ayatollah Motahari. The bill on the scope of authority and jurisdiction of the work [and jurisdiction of the revolutionary prosecutors' offices and] courts was under discussion and was approved. During the recess, I spoke to spectators who had come from Mazandaran. At noon, the governor of Shiraz, the religious judge, and the prosecutor of the Revolutionary Court came to my office. They complained about some of the representatives from Shiraz and spoke about the problems of the [Islamic Republic] Party. The father of two martyrs had come from Ilam and was asking for help.

In the afternoon, the Party's [Islamic Republic] committee on revising its positions held a meeting, followed by the Party's Central Council. At night, the commanders of the Army and IRGC ground forces explained the future plans for the war. They had prepared them based on our own proposal. Then Dr. Velayati gave a report on [preserving] the environment, oil spills, and the movements of the countries of the region and the world. We decided to accept supervision by organizations and countries of the region, even the non-aligned ones.

The officials in charge of interrogating the leaders of the Tudeh Party brought a report. Decisions were made about continuing the work. They said that so far about six hundred people had been arrested, two hundred of whom, including a number of military personnel, were in prison, and that they had caught a military person at the rendezvous who was handing over war secrets. I came home at twelve midnight.
