Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – March 30, 1991

I reached my office at half past eight in the morning. In the reports, the news of the city of Kirkuk changing hands between the Iraqi army and Kurdish groups. Dr. [Syed Mohammad Reza] Hashemi Golpaigani, [Secretary of the Supreme Council of Cultural Intellectuals], came for the agenda of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution.

Mr. Seyyed Abdulsaheb, son of Ayatollah Khoei and [Syed Morteza] Hakkami, his son-in-law, came. They told about the arrest of Ayatollah Khouei and his family and being sent to Baghdad and confronting Saddam and then his return to Kufa, under protection and interviews with foreign journalists and the continued arrest of family members, including five women in Baghdad, and emphasizing the coercion and intimidation and the escape of their other son to Saudi Arabia. After the interview, they complained about the abatement of advertisements in their favor in the Iranian media.

I said it was not intended to weaken. Journalists simply lose motivation and talk less. I promised, we will increase the advertisements and put pressure on Saddam in different ways. He also complained about the removal of that part of Ayatollah Golpaygani's statement on Sedavasima, which was related to Ayatollah Khoei; I said it should be compensated. I instructed the radio stations to broadcast the entire statement again.

Mr. [Hamid] Mirzadeh, [Executive Vice President] and [Abdul Hossein] Vahaji, [Minister of Commerce], came to Kish for business issues. Points were to be given. Mr. Seyed Mohammad Baqir and Mr. Seyed Abdulaziz Hakim came. They reported on the situation in Iraq and the struggles of the people and complained about the weak support of the IRGC. They asked for opinions about various plans to continue the battle and political movements. They were allowed to negotiate with America.

One of the bodyguards who is accused of unauthorized entry into my office and was introduced to IRGC information protection came. He was upset and apologized and asked for forgiveness. I said that eventually the truth should be known, but I will help so that no harm will happen.

In the evening, the Supreme Council of National Security had a meeting. It was allowed to attack the Mujahideen [People's Mujahideen Organization] in Iraq and to continue helping the opponents [Saddam] at the current level.

At night, we had a meeting with Ahmad Agha. We discussed the topics of the evening meeting of the Supreme National Security Council; It was approved by the leadership.
