Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – March 28, 1982

I studied the reports. Unfortunately, the world media does not reflect Iran's victory and Iraq proudly claims victory.

Mr. Mohsen Rezaei called from the front and said that in the next two days the work in this front will be finished and he will come to Tehran for future plans. I went to the parliament at ten in the morning. The employees of the Majlis gathered on the occasion of Eid and to congratulate me on the victory and met me at the library. I spoke a little for them.

Mr. [Mohammed Ali] Hadi, [Sabah] Zanganeh and [Syed Mohammad] Khatami came and we discussed the continuation of the war, the future of Iraq, the issue of our forces entering Iraq, and the quality of the cooperation of the Iraqi Islamic forces. I prayed the afternoon and evening prayers with the guards of the Majlis and gave a speech for them. 

In the evening, I participated in the meeting of the Central Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The topic under discussion was more about the future of Iraq and taking damages, etc., and most of the opinion was that we should put pressure to complete the work.

Then I had a private meeting with the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister where we discussed about the foreign minister's trip to Pakistan and his plans and decided to allow Pakistani and Indian nationals to travel to Iran and develop our relations with Pakistan. I was a guest of the president for dinner. I went to the parliament at twelve o'clock at night. In the 12 o'clock news, it was announced that the Iraqis had been cleared from the entire west of Dezful and had retreated to the border, and had taken about 18,000 captives and killed more.
