We went to Emergency Hospital No. 2 (Bimarestan-e Emdad-e Shomareh-do) to visit the war wounded. A reporter from the Pars News Agency and a cameraman from IRIB had also come. The hospital is large, with over five hundred beds. Most of the beds were empty. It is interesting that in the midst of war, we have so many empty hospital beds. Nearly one hundred and fifty patients were [admitted] there, all of whom I visited. About half of them were wounded in the war or war-displaced. Morale was good. The doctors and nurses had done good work. No major shortages were noticeable in the hospital, though a few itemized medications were scarce and needed to be supplied. The hospital's Islamic Association had built a mosque but lacked funds; they requested help, and I issued a draft of one hundred thousand tomans from Awqaf [Endowments]; I hope they pay it.
A call came from the Imam's residence, setting an appointment to meet with the Imam on Saturday. I love the Imam very much; I was happy at the news of the meeting. At the front and in the hospital, many people asked me to kiss the Imam's face on their behalf; God willing, I will kiss him—it is a good excuse.
While we were coming down from the top floor in the elevator, the elevator broke down and we were trapped for a while. The head of the hospital, Dr. Sedqiani, was also there and was very upset. From outside, they located the elevator technician; he came and fixed it.
In the evening, a group from Kashan arrived and requested that I go to Kashan to deliver a speech at Friday prayers; I declined. Colonel [Ali-Akbar] Moshfeqi, head of police, and Mr. Naqilou, deputy chief of police, came and provided a report on the state of the police force (Shahrbani), saying there is a plan to make the police more active. They took a few photos, but the camera was faulty and the photos were ruined.
Mr. Bijan came; they have brought a camp of youth from Kurdistan and expect the army to help; it was agreed that I follow up on it.
