Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 6, 1991

A group of members of the Islamic associations of Mashhad guilds came. They read a poem. I spoke to them. Dr. [Hadi] Manafi, [Head of Environmental Organization] and deputies came. They gave a report on the state of the environment and asked for help.

[Mr. Gholamreza Faruzesh], Minister of Construction Jihad came. He complained to the Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance that he did not cooperate with him. He gave a report on the work of Jihad and gave suggestions for handing over the economic units of Jihad to the members of Jihad.

Mr. Saud al-Faisal, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, came. King Fahd invited me and discussed the rules of cooperation between the two countries. He requested a private meeting, which I accepted. We had an understanding about the future of Iraq, the Hajj ceremony, cooperation in OPEC and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as economic, cultural, commercial and technical cooperation.

Mr. [Ali] Shamkhani, [commander of the navy] came. He praised the government's programs. We decided to participate in the graduation ceremony of Nadaja [= Navy of the Islamic Republic Army] in Bushehr. He announced the readiness of Nadaja's facilities to help the country's affairs and requested for the construction of Nadaja's headquarters building.

In the evening Mr. Mehdi Hashemi - cousin - and his two children came. I gave ten thousand tomans to each person. We went to visit the special inspection office. Mohsen [Hashmi, head of the president's special inspection office] and his colleagues explained; They mostly said that it was interesting to computerize things.

I came home in the evening. Chastity had also gone to a party. I read a little book. We were alone at night. The children are traveling.
