Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 14, 1982

An unconfirmed report arrived that the ceasefire in Lebanon has broken down and Israel has occupied the Baabda area, where the president of that country is located. By capturing a portion of the Beirut-Damascus highway, they have severed Beirut's connection with Damascus. They have also occupied the airport. Egypt announced that the Palestinians, through that country, have requested a ceasefire from Israel.

Colonel Sayyad Shirazi came early in the morning. He brought a map of Bostan and the status of opposing forces, detailing the situation of the war fronts in the west and south. It was decided that they prepare to take action to occupy a portion of Iraqi territory, which had been previously approved. He also raised the Ground Forces' friction with the Political-Ideological Department and asked for assistance; we agreed to hold a meeting to address it.

Mr. [Ali Akbar] Nateq Nouri came with several deputy ministers from the Ministry of Interior, and we consulted regarding the National Police, the Revolutionary Committees, and the Isfahan Governor's Office.

In the afternoon, I swam for a bit and wrote an introduction to Dr. [Ali] Qaemi's book about Martyr Beheshti, as well as catching up on the backlog of diary entries for the past few days.
