Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 7, 1991

Mr. [Hadi] Nejad Hosseinian, [Minister of Heavy Industries] came. He gave a report on the production situation of heavy industries and requested my support for the plan to cancel the physical balance quota and release the production in the government.

Mr. [Shakrullah] Riyazi, the head of the arms procurement commission and the head of defense industry protection, came. He gave a report on the purchase of weapons from China and criticized the parliamentary deputy of the Ministry of Defense. Mr. [Abbas Ali] a lawyer came. He gave a report on the services provided to the freedmen and said that the bodies of some of the missing martyrs have been identified. He asked for more help for the freedmen. I said that the policy is to do the work of the headquarters more quickly.

I spoke with [Mr. Muammar] Gaddafi on the phone. I thanked the family for their hospitality and invited him. [Mr. Gholamhossein Karbaschi], the mayor of Tehran, came. There was a negotiation about the assignment of land that is undocumented all over the city of Tehran and the clients are undecided and the ways of reconciliation with them, in order to solve their problem and the municipality. Regarding getting the right to increase the density, it was decided to refer to a special commission to determine the rules. Now there are many criticisms on the irregular collection of such funds.

In the evening, I attended the meeting of the government board. The physical balance of heavy industry machines was in the salt, which was left unfinished. At night [Mr. Li Ping], the Chinese Prime Minister came. I held a banquet in his honor. He came at my invitation and Dr. Habibi welcomed him at the airport.

Before dinner and during dinner, we had informal discussions about global issues and our two countries. The lecture at the dinner table and dinner lasted until eleven o'clock. Eft also hosted the Prime Minister's wife and his companions in the club of the presidential institution. Fati and Faezeh and [Ms. Shirin Khoshnoisan and Ms. Shafiqa Raheedah] were also the wives of Mr. [Hasan] Habibi and [Ali Akbar] Velayati. I arrived home late. Chastity arrived later than me.
