Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 23, 1984

Early in the morning, I studied the life history of Imam Sadiq (a.s.) for Friday prayer sermons. I went to the Imam's office to visit the Imam. Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei also came. We went to serve the Imam together. We reported the situation of the front and the opinions of the commanders about future operations. We asked them for their opinion. His opinion was that we should not put too much pressure on the commanders executing [operations] so that they are forced to act against their opinion. negotiate with them; Either they will be convinced or we will be convinced. With this Imam's opinion, the pressure on me will also decrease.

Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei was also discussed about banning night fighting around Tehran - which causes discomfort to the people at night. Also, to act on the proposal made by Mr. [Mohsen] Noorbakhsh, that by giving an advanced [Russian] tank to the British, we will get the hard-to-obtain needs; Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei was supposed to prepare the list.

Mr. [Reza] Saifullahi, commander of the Isfahan army, also came; In order to attract Mr. [Jalaluddin] Taheri [Imam Juma of Isfahan] and the cooperation of the [Islamic Republic] party with him, he gave hints. We said that Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei had made an appointment with them to form an alliance with the party in the Isfahan elections, but they avoided it. It is a good starting point for cooperation. Yesterday and today, Hizbollahs have demonstrated in Tehran against women who do not observe hijab. Conflicts have also arisen. Two or three of my bodyguards had also participated in this demonstration and were complaining that they had been beaten by the officers of the [Islamic Revolution] Committee; Some were worried about chaos.

I went to the assembly in the evening. It was the meeting of the unit center of the party [Islamic Republic of] Majlis. I talked about the future status of the center and told political matters to the representatives. About a hundred people participated in the meeting. Many considered the plan to amend the internal regulations to weaken the parliament. I defended myself and said that it can be corrected. The commander of the navy and captain Binder came and gave a report on the force's facilities for future operations. At night, I stayed in the parliament and did the work.
