Before noon, Ahmad Aqa came. He said: The Imam had become uncertain about preferring any one of Messrs. Emami Kashani, Aqarazi Shirazi, or Mahdavi Kani for membership in the Guardian Council. I spoke with him at length; it was agreed that they would discuss the matter with the Imam. Late at night, Ahmad Aqa came and said that the decree appointing three people, Messrs. Mohammadi Gilani, Momen, and Emami Kashani [as members of the Guardian Council], had been issued and was to be announced tomorrow morning, so that the matter would be considered settled. In the present situation, every day proposals are brought to the Imam by groups such as the [Society of] Seminary Teachers [of Qom] and other clerics and the Combatant Clergy Association [of Tehran], which cause him to become uncertain.
In the afternoon, at the office of [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei, we had a meeting with the Supreme Economic Council about the issue of rising prices, and decisions were made. We broke the fast there. Then we discussed the ministers of intelligence, labor, and agriculture and their deputies with the prime minister and the president, and decisions were made. I came home late. I spent the night in vigil.
