Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – February 15, 1984

After morning prayer, I started working in my office. I read some of the deliberations of the Revolutionary Council. Dr. [Abbas] Shibani, who was the secretary of the meetings, made brief notes. He is now working on correcting and typing it. It is a valuable document and text of the history of the revolution. It seems that he has thirteen notebooks, one of which is organized. I made inquiries about the future operation that is going to be carried out tonight in the west. In the evening, the board of directors had a meeting and we approved the next week's order and other decisions were made.

With the agreement of Mr. Katirayi, we opened the safe containing the confidential documents of the National Assembly, which is in my room, and briefly looked at its contents. There is nothing important; Seals, some old letters from the Qajar era, some documents from the Shah's era, and things like that. I said let's officially take care of all these things and send them to their place. In addition, the Imam's political testament, which was delivered to the Majlis of Experts, is kept by me in the same fund.

At night, we were the guests of [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei. Together with the Prime Minister and Mr. Ahmad Agha and Mr. [Mousavi] Ardabili, they discussed the freedom of Nadem prisoners and the fight against moral corruption and war and the completion of the cabinet and the situation in Lebanon.

It was reported that today a package containing explosives exploded in the office of our ambassador in Syria, Mr. Mohtashmi, and his right hand was cut off at the wrist and two or three fingers were lost from his left hand, but he was saved. Apparently, Israel has committed this crime. As a result of the evils of Baath in Iraq and as a countermeasure, the cities of Basra and Baghdad were bombed.
