Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – December 3, 1992

We went to the airport with all the family members except Yasir and immediately flew to Kish. Mr. [Hamid] Mirzadeh, [Executive Vice President] was also there. On the way of Mr. Mirzadeh, he gave a report on the status of Kish Free Trade Zone. The pilots came and told the needs of Nahaja [Army Air Force]. They also said that the lack of currency has caused a delay in the supply of bird parts.

In Kish, we all went to the pavilion. The purpose of the trip was to rest. We were supposed to do no plan or work, but they didn't let us. Mr. [Sidjalil] Seydzadeh, the governor [of Hormozgan] had come. He negotiated about the state of the province and the needs and problems before noon and in the evening and got help.

In the evening, the managers of Kish [Azad Zone] came and the regulations of Kish and the decrease in passengers were discussed. Card sales have increased, but mostly in bulk. They buy from wholesalers in the port. Shops have flocks. They considered the smuggling of goods from Qeshm as another reason for Kish becoming more secluded.

We came to the conclusion that the sale of land in Kish can cause people to come and become interested in it, and finally the population of the island. We can use this policy in other islands to settle them.

We had dinner in the green restaurant in the wooden pavilions. They have created very beautiful and poetic landscapes. On horseback, we visited the streets and projects in progress and the palm grove; Overall, it is very clean and bright. We also visited the port and warehouses. We visited the Shia mosque in Kish village; It is under reconstruction. It will be very clean and spectacular.

Some time was spent reading the reports. Before noon, I swam in the sea and did some jet skiing. They have a good jet ski and it is easy to use.
