Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – December 25, 1991

I reached my office at half past eight in the morning. A group of women workers and women members of the Red Crescent came. Workers introduced female role models. Dr. [Sifullah] Vahid [Dastjardi, head of the Red Crescent Organization], gave a report on the actions of the organization in promoting ethics and education of women. I spoke to them about the policy of the revolution regarding women and gave them gifts.

Mr. [Hamid] Mirzadeh, [executive vice president], came for religious affairs and reconstruction and talked about the amount of cement and credit. We had a meeting with the general assembly [of the railway company]. The meeting was held based on the report of the special inspection office [of the president], regarding the weaknesses, solutions, and needs of the organization; It took a long time. While accepting the weaknesses, they attributed most of it to the lack of currency and credit in the past years and did not accept the statistics of the inspection office regarding the level of efficiency; The inspection did not prove its claim either. I decided to check the arguments of both sides myself. Emphasis was placed on repairing faulty locomotives and checking China's [railway] facilities.

It snows intermittently from morning to evening in Tehran. Fortunately, this year in the autumn season, the rainfall is very good and compared to the previous year and the average of the last fifteen years, it is low. In almost the entire country, the rainfall has been more and in some cases several times.

In the evening, I attended the meeting of the government. The regulation of the coordinated payment system was in order; finished I ordered women to be given appropriate executive positions.

I did not come home at night because of the snow. Chastity came to my office. The guards had taken syrup for dinner, which I don't like. I ate little food. At the end of the night, Ashikh Mohammad informed Rafsanjan that the bad guys attacked Noug and Anar and killed eight people. They are also worried about the condition of his mother and nurse.

I spoke with Brigadier General Sohrabi, the commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran's police force. He said that the officers are looking for them and because it is night, the helicopter cannot fly and the criminals are fleeing in the desert. They will intensify the pursuit tomorrow. I told Ashikh Mohammad to take his mother and close relatives from Nog to Rafsanjan, because they might be the target of the bad guys.
