Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – December 12, 1992

I arrived at the office at half past eight. It was not much work. Mr. [Mohsen] Nourbakhsh, [Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance] and Mr. [Kamal] Kharazi, [Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations] came. They expressed concern about the consequences of extremism and the darkening of foreign relations and sought solutions to prevent the consequences.

Dr. [Syed Mohammad Reza] Hashemi [Golpaigani] came for the order of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. We went to Hawai'i University to participate in the students' graduation ceremony. After the military ceremonies, Sun and listening to the report and performing the anthem, awards were given and I gave a speech. They marched. I returned to the office at half past twelve.

We discussed and made a decision about the quality of dealing with the issue of human rights, which has become the leverage of the enemies, and the issue of Abu Musa Island, which the Emiratis have asked the UN Secretary General to mediate. It was decided to cooperate with [Mr. Gallindopel], the UN Special Representative for Human Rights, and to correct the internal situation and [in the case of Abu Musa Island], to accept the mediation of the Secretary General for the time being. It was decided to sell some of the lands of the Persian Gulf islands to people to encourage their settlement. I came home I watched a series.
