Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – December 11, 1986

I woke up during the morning call to prayer and did not sleep again. Mr. Mohsen Rezaei came and we discussed about the deception operation and the use of Abolfazl (pbuh) camp, and with the arrival of Dr. Rouhani, there was a discussion about defense and anti-aircraft. The IRGC wants [defense] to be placed under the command of the IRGC Air Force. Dr. Rouhani is not satisfied. It was decided that they should be under the command of Khatam Ik. There are many such time-consuming and nerve-wracking disputes.

We left for Bushehr by car at half past eight. We passed the cities of Mahshahr, Dilam and Bandar Ganaveh. There were traces of flooding almost all the way. In Ramshir more than other places, roads, bridges and fields were damaged and the flood was very extensive. We prayed noon prayer in Ganaveh mosque and entered Bushehr airbase at half past three. We have decided to go to Kish and Bandar Abbas in order to avoid the loss and deception of the enemy.

Air Force 707 tanker plane came from Tehran. Fati, Faeze and their children and their uncle's family also came. We flew to Kish Island and had lunch on the plane. We entered Kish at four o'clock. An official welcome was given and I had a brief interview and came to the residence villa. I read Maghrib and Isha prayers and wrote today's memories.

We had a meeting with the officials of Kish Island and Hormozgan Province at [Shayan] Hotel. We heard explanations about the new activities of Imran Kish. The governor and some other officials of the province do not agree and have different opinions.

In the negotiations between Mr. [Hamid] Mirzadeh, the executive deputy of the prime minister and the person in charge of the Kish [civil engineering organization], and Mr. Tajik, the governor of Hormozgan, there were verbal clashes. In general, Mirzadeh is right. Dinner was spent at the hotel. I slept late.
