Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 22, 1982

We had a public meeting. There were two urgent matters: the start of the first year of medical school and the exemption of a group of medical students from military service and travel outside the center to see medical specialists. Before the order, I spoke about the American conspiracy and the reactionary movement regarding the departure of Palestinians from Lebanon.  During the break, I met and spoke with a group of men and women who had come from the provinces of Fars, Hormozgan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Sistan and Baluchestan, Bushehr, and West Azerbaijan.  Mr. [Ezzatollah] Sahabi [the representative of Tehran] came and spoke about the President's prevention of the implementation of the Industrial Protection Law due to the violations of the law by the enforcers, and he complained about it.

In the evening, a group from the Air Force Intelligence came. They were previously associates of Mr. Moeinpour and had faced anger and purging. They had complaints and provided evidence of violations. We also discussed the economic sermons of Friday prayers with Mr. Bayat.

I attended the party council meeting. The discussion mainly focused on the differences in economic perspectives between the two groups within the party and the criticisms they had of each other.

The weekly consultative meeting of the leaders was held, and Mr. [Mohsen] Rezaei and Mr. [Ali] Sayyad [Shirazi] also attended and provided explanations regarding their new plan. Mr. [Shahabuddin Parvin] Gonabadi [Minister of Housing and Urban Development] came, and there was a discussion about his appearance in parliament and defending against the objections of the representatives. Mr. [Behzad] Nabavi also reported on the results of his trip to North Korea, where they had selected several items to spend the oil money on. They discussed Imam's directive regarding the repeal of past anti-Islamic laws and their own responsibilities.

I returned home late at night. Mr. [Seyed Hossein] Marashi, the Deputy Governor of Kerman, had come and talked about the dispute with the Jiroft Friday Imam and the lack of effort by the Ministry of Housing in Shahr-e Babak and Golbaf. I went to bed at midnight.
