Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 10, 1984

Early in the morning, Mr. Tabasi and I went to visit a new carpet weaving workshop founded by Razavi's Astan Quds and the developed village of Astan Quds. I spoke for the people there. The workshop has been built with good quality as an example of the improvement of carpet weaving workshops.

In the afternoon, Mr. [Mohammed Mohammadi] Ray Shahri came. He was not satisfied with the level of content presented in the [World Imam Reza (AS)] Congress. He used to say that [the content] is superficial and has little content and is repetitive; But Mr. Tabasi did not accept. [Mr. Ray Shahri] said that the guests complain about Mr. Tabasi, who leaves them alone to accompany me. I emphasized to Mr. Tabasi to have more contact with the guests. In the evening, the members of the Central Council of the Islamic Republic of Khorasan came. We discussed about the party and I avoided [them] differences.

Mr. [Mohammed Taqi] Falsafi and his brother Haj Mirza Ali Agha came; His brother in Mashhad does not cooperate with the Islamic revolution. Mr. [Mohammed Taqi] Philosopher gave a lecture in the Imam's courtyard. At night, Mashhad clerics came. There were many people. The students expressed passionate feelings; I gave them a detailed speech.

Then the investigation committee came and explained the situation of the Mashhad district. About seven thousand people have tuition fees. About fifteen million tomans per month is the cost of the school and tuition [for students]. Dr. [Mahmoud] Rouhani, the former Minister of Advisors, came and expressed his willingness to work. They used to wash the Holy Shrine; I took advantage of its solitude and went on a pilgrimage.
