Around nine o'clock in the morning, I went to Parliament. After studying the reports, Mr. Heidari, the representative of Bushehr, came and spoke of the disorders of the oil company on Kharg Island; the situation of the Ministry of Petroleum is not good, our Minister [Majid Tondgoyan] and his deputy Engineer Bushehri are captives in Iraq, and some managers under the influence of Engineer [Ali-Akbar] Moinfar are not very cohesive with Mr. Rajai's government. Something must be done.
Then Mr. [Ali-Akbar] Nateq-Nouri came and intended to resign from Construction Jihad (Jehad-e Sazandegi), but after discussions, he was dissuaded. He recounted a dangerous accident he had on the Rafsanjan–Yazd road; thank God, it passed without harm. He also highly praised the spirit of the seminar of Islamic university and high school students in Kerman and complained about the lack of cohesion in the Islamic Republican Party. He is right; the Islamic Republican Party has not yet taken on the form and function of a real party.
I did an interview with television regarding Mr. Sayyid Mohammad Baqir al-Sadr. Then [I held] a meeting with the Italian Ambassador—who was seeking the expansion of economic relations. I expressed gratitude that Italian companies had carried out work in Iran after the Revolution, and criticized that they had not delivered our Chinook helicopters. He said the issue has been resolved.
In the afternoon, representatives of Academic Jihad (Jehad-e Daneshgahi) came and were concerned about the news of universities reopening this year. They said a proper plan for the universities has not yet been arranged and were upset with the underperformance of the Cultural Revolution Headquarters. They also had proposals which it was agreed they would draft and submit, and I promised to look into them.
Then Mr. Golesorkhi Kashani came. He admitted his past stance was a mistake regarding Mr. Shariatmadari and the Muslim People's Republic Party. He had problems with a poultry farming operation and a fish farming project, in which I assisted him.
I went to the guards' headquarters at the Imam's residence, prayed with them, and gave a speech, and I sent points regarding the 175mm cannon and the Turkish border to the Imam. In the evening, we were guests at Mr. Beheshti's house.
