Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 4, 1981

At eight o'clock, I went to Parliament. I studied the reports. Several former retired ambassadors came and complained about the Reconstruction Bill, which condemned former ambassadors to dismissal. It was agreed that I give a reminder to the committee, and they submitted a complaint.

Mr. [Asadollah] Bayat spoke about Zanjan's need for a Friday Prayer Leader and a distinguished, militant cleric. He spoke of the negative actions of the two representatives of Zanjan, the situation of the Mousavi family, the government organs and revolutionary institutions being revolutionary and on-line [with the Imam], and the misguided speech of Engineer [Mehdi] Bazargan on the twelfth of Farvardin [April 1].

Mr. Khajavi brought a legislative proposal for the disqualification of Members of Parliament. I sent it to the Internal Rules Committee.

In the afternoon, two seminary students from Tabriz came; they sought advice regarding the content of seminary studies. Then Bahadoran, the governor of Zarrin Shahr, and Engineer Hafezian came. They spoke about the good operation of factories in the Lenjan region, steel, cement, the acts of sabotage by minor factions (guruhaks), and the need to assist the Kurds [supporting] Iraqi Mahmud Uthman.

The officials of the Azadegan newspaper—which has been shut down—came; they wanted help to resolve the problem. It was agreed that I negotiate with Mr. Karimi, head of the Mostazafan Foundation (Bonyad-e Mostazafan), regarding granting them printing facilities at the foundation's printing press.

I read reports on the situation of war refugee camps in Bushehr and Hamadan, and responses to Nowruz greetings were prepared. News of our aircraft attacking deep inside Iraqi territory and destroying four air bases was broadcast with great fanfare. Hopefully, it will be effective.
