Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 3, 1982

The members of the offices of the Islamic Republic Party had a meeting with the Imam, in which the Central Council and other branches were also present. Mr. Khamenei spoke on behalf of the party and Imam gave a detailed speech and addressed and discussed the party with the official institutions of the country, which has a great effect on the success of the party.  

Before that, Mr. [Mahmoud] Karimi, the head of the Mustafafan Foundation, came and gave a report on the foundation's successes. After the meeting with the Imam, Mr. Khamenei, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister came to our house for lunch. Mr. Dr. Velayati [Foreign Affairs Minister] reported the results of his visit to Pakistan and that they have given us a great welcome and have paid attention to our demands and have been willing to meet our military needs to some extent, and an economic and political agreement has been exchanged and they have taken a common position on the issue of Afghanistan.

He was consulted about his travel plan to Kuwait and discussions with the sheikhs of the Persian Gulf and gaining their trust and confidence. In the evening, I went to the parliament and had an economic discussion with Mr. [Moniruddin] Hosseini. Then, we had a meeting with Mr. [Syed Ali Akbar] Parvaresh [Minister of Education] and a group of deputies and officials of the Ministry of Education, in the presence of Mr. Prime Minister. Their differences are intense and the two sides talked for three hours. Finally, we approved the opinion of Mr. Parvesh and asked them to cooperate. I slept in the parliament at night.
