Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 22, 1982

We had a public meeting. In the first session, I condemned Israel's attack on Lebanon.  The representatives spoke against Mr. Shariatmadari. Mr. [Hashem] Sabaghian wanted to read the declaration of the [Iranian] Freedom Movement condemning the coup, but some people crowded and he could not read it. The constitution of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was discussed and the parliament did not accept the demands of the soldiers. Some of the representatives consider the demands of the IRGC to be monopolistic and the soldiers are very upset about this situation.

In the afternoon Mr. [Ali] Hojjati Kermani came and was sad and affected by unemployment and isolation. In the evening, I had a class [lesson] on positions [of the Islamic Republic Party] and had two meetings with the governor and governors of Mazandaran and the Parents and Teachers Association. I came home at night.

They released the interview of Mr. [Syed Mahdi] Mahdavi, one of the accused of the coup; He made important confessions and said that Mr. Shariatmadari has confirmed. At the end of the night, Mr. [Mohammed] Mousavi Khoiniha came to discuss the distribution of documents of the spy nest against Mr. Shariatmadari.
