Heavy snow fell last night, and the trees are completely covered in snow, and the weather is cold as well. I hope there hasn't been any frost damage; there is a possibility of frost damage to the tree fruits. If they are frost-bitten, under these conditions, it will create a huge problem for the country and the government. I do not remember such snow having fallen on the thirteenth of Farvardin [April 2].

Yesterday in Thailand, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief staged a coup against the Prime Minister and the Commander-in-Chief, and this morning news indicates resistance from the Prime Minister. The nature of the coup is not yet clear to me.

At nine o'clock in the morning, I went to visit the Imam. I told him what I knew regarding the war and the peace delegation. While the Imam wishes for the war to end sooner, he does not deem it advisable for us to back down, and he is concerned about a condition that, after peace, we must not help the Iraqi people against Saddam; he is concerned if such a clause were to be included in the agreement, especially given the expectations of the Iraqi people.

The Imam agreed with the selection of Mr. Mohammad Yazdi on our behalf for the arbitration committee. I spoke over the phone with Mr. Mousavi Ardebili. He said the Imam is firm that Mr. Banisadr must purge his office and must publicly and explicitly oppose counter-revolutionary groups, and that he [the Imam] has authorized the prosecution of those responsible for the Esfand 14 [March 5] events, even if it is the President, and emphasized that the arbitration committee must act quickly.

At noon, I went to the Esteghlal Hotel to meet the families of Khuzestani martyrs. I led congregational prayers with them, ate lunch with them, and gave a short speech to them; they are very warm and passionate.

I also spoke over the phone with Mr. Rajai. It was agreed that we announce Mr. Yazdi as the representative. It was announced. In the evening, the family of Martyr Alamolhoda Ahvazi were Effat's guests and stayed overnight.

A call came from Martyr Motahhari's house saying they had been threatened over the phone. I sent one of my own guards to their house for protection.

Ahmad Aqa Khomeini called and said that the Imam says it seems Qotbzadeh is in a bad financial situation and a solution should be found, and Ahmad Aqa suggested that a job be assigned to him. But intelligence reports state that he has an office, a luxury secretary, and his office expenses are high; where is he getting it from?!
