In Shiraz, thugs and members of corrupt groups, through plotting, cause distress to the people and incite groups; in this connection, a committed Muslim who protested the misconduct of a few displaced persons was martyred in a clash, and then the people's reaction led to a large number from both sides being injured and arrested. I told him that as long as we held the power of decision-making and appointment, we tried to keep the gentlemen on the scene, even after his resignation and the renewal of the Revolutionary Council. However, after the formation of Parliament, we were no longer the decision-makers, and the firmer forces of the Line of the Imam were unwilling to exercise conservatism and accept liberals in key positions, and currently it is strictly the era of the revolutionary government of the followers of the Line of the Imam. The revolutionary institutions, Parliament, the Judicial Council, and Hezbollah will not tolerate a government of liberals. It is better for the gentlemen, if they act in good faith, to stop undermining us and to cooperate.
He said that the Freedom Movement (Nehzat-e Azadi) was not seeking to bring down the government and form a government, but I said that Mr. Bani-Sadr was seeking to do so and that you support him, to which he had no answer to give.
