I came to the parliament at half past eight in the morning. Mr. Rahim Safavi and [Ibrahim] Sanjaghi came. They gave the report of the front and brought Mr. Mohsen Rezaei's letter, which had suggestions about the war: the formation of two camps in the south and north of the front, the southern camp under the command of Mr. Shamkhani and the northern camp under the command of Mr.
I came to the parliament at half past eight in the morning. Mr. Rahim Safavi and [Ibrahim] Sanjaghi came. They gave the report of the front and brought Mr. Mohsen Rezaei's letter, which had suggestions about the war: the formation of two camps in the south and north of the front, with the southern camp under the command of Mr. Shamkhani and the northern camp under the command of the army element, and he himself would be my successor.
Mr. Sayad came and reported the understanding with Mr. Rezaei. It was claimed that they had an understanding on the joint command of the camps, which was not established by Mr. Rezaei's letter.
A camp meeting was held. They reported the retreat of the ground forces from the heights of Somar. They have defended very poorly. The members of the ground force headquarters said clearly that they cannot defend the lines without the help of volunteer forces. There was a discussion about the artillery and the number of soldiers needed by the troops. It turned out that, for example, if we take 480 thousand soldiers, everyone's needs will be met. We did not reach a clear result for the defense of the lines. It was decided that Mr. Rezaei would come to make a decision.
In the afternoon, Mr. [Reza] Amrollahi [head of the Atomic Energy Organization] came and gave a report on the negotiation with the French delegation and said that the Germans will not clear our purchased goods. In the evening, Mr. [Ahmad] Salk came and gave the report of the support committee of the Iraqi Supreme Assembly and stated the needs. It was decided that the operations inside Iraq would be directed from the Khatam camp.
The French delegation came. They brought the letter of Mr. Delmas, the Speaker of the French Parliament. They wanted to admire the relationship. I mentioned the unfriendly actions of France in detail and clarified that we want to praise the relations, but France is responsible for the darkness of relations and should stop the actions against friendship.
Mr. [Mohsen] Kangarlu came. He brought the new proposal of the Americans regarding the Lebanese hostages. It is clear that they are playing and thinking of deception. I told him to say that first of all they should send the hack parts and then we can start talking. I worked in my office until half past eight and came home.
