Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi - August 1, 2001 - A Second Meeting with Masih Mohajeri and Complaints about the Leadership and Management of the System and Country

In continuation of Masih Mohajeri's meetings and negotiations with Ayatollah Khamenei and the country's leaders regarding the restriction and suspension of press activities and the detention of political-social activists, he had a second meeting with Hashemi to express grievances about the leadership and management of the system and the country.

Meeting with Seyed Mehdi Hosseini and a report from the oil goods company in London.

The marriage contract of Dr. Gholamreza Ansari's daughter and Mr. Kolahdooz's son was officiated.

Following the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to the Air Force to expel foreign companies from the Alborz oil region, today, Mohsen Rezai also threatened the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the return of its territory to Iran.

Full Text of the Daily Entry:

Mr. Masih Mohajeri, [Social Advisor to the President and Editor-in-Chief of the Jomhouri Eslami newspaper], came. He had prepared a written document regarding the dangers threatening the revolution and the weakness of the leadership office and the management of the system and country, along with proposals for solving these problems. He expressed admiration for my speech at the gathering of Muslim physicians residing in America, saying that the attendees were greatly influenced. Dr. [Alireza] Marandi and Dr. Noohi, among others, echoed Mr. Mohajeri’s sentiments.

Mr. [Mehdi] Hosseini, the manager of the London goods company, came. He was affected by the confrontations regarding the fight against corruption, which he believes undermine the dignity of the managers, as well as the attacks on the Ministry of Oil concerning buy-back contracts. He brought pamphlets defending the necessity of these actions and sought assistance for resolving the issues that did not arise during the era of reconstruction.

Messrs. [Mohammad Mehdi] Mirbagheri and [Alireza] Pirouzmand, students of the late Seyed Moin al-Din Shirazi, [the founder of the Academy of Islamic Sciences in Qom], came. They had questions regarding the resolution of the conflict between religiosity and modernism, and their so-called "authority and effectiveness," but, influenced by their teacher's literature, they buried this simple question within weakly comprehensible terminology. I said that with dynamic ijtihad and flexible Islamic principles and foundations, we have no real problems. The issue stems from misunderstandings and weak practices. In the afternoon, I officiated the marriage contract for Mr. [Gholamreza] Ansari's daughter and Mr. Kolahdooz's son. Both the bride and groom are students in England.

Today, Israel attacked southern Lebanon, Gaza, and the West Bank, martyring several people, and there were two explosions in Jerusalem. The issue of the "Spider Killings" in Mashhad is still under discussion, and leftists and foreigners have expressed doubts in the announced reports.

Mr. Mohsen Rezai, [Secretary of the Expediency Discernment Council], warned Azerbaijan that if it continues in this manner, the people of Iran might demand the return of Northern Azerbaijan to Iranian territory. This statement did not receive attention domestically, but it was met with great sensitivity in foreign media and Azerbaijan. In Pakistan, the assassinations and insecurity continue.
