Memories of Akbar Hashemi - June 27, 2001 - Consultative Meeting with the Deputies of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Discernment Council

We had a meeting with the deputies of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Discernment Council. Previously, I had written about the damage caused by the direct communication and the issuance of decrees to the deputies of this center by Hashemi, as well as the lack of coordination between them and Hassan Rouhani, the head of this center.

In the afternoon, Mr. Moussa Ghobani, the representative from Qain, came. He recounted the events in today's Parliament regarding the bill for investigating and inspecting the state broadcasting organization, where a commotion had arisen. After extensive discussions lasting until eleven o'clock, Mr. Mahdi Karroubi, the Speaker of the Parliament, accepted that it was against the regulations and removed it from the agenda. This action led to widespread protests from the leftist faction; some left in protest, while others submitted an urgent proposal to compensate for the action. The presidium agreed to review the matter in their session, and the issue of questioning the Speaker of the Parliament was brought up.

He explained their inappropriate political maneuvers and sought solutions for this unfavorable situation. Mr. Seyyed Hossein Yaqoubi Khalkhali came and reported on his efforts to promote the memorization of the Quran and the verses of rulings, seeking assistance.

Syria has withdrawn some of its forces from Lebanon; although it claimed resistance, it effectively demonstrated a form of submission.
