Reading "Preserving Truth," by Abbas Salimi-Namin, Critiquing the Memoirs of Ayatollah Montazeri

Complete Daily Entry:

I spent the day at home reading, resting, and visiting with family and relatives. I read part of Beyond Accusation, the memoirs of Abbas Amirentekhab. It provides new insights into the internal relationships of the liberals during the administrations of [Mehdi] Bazargan and [Shapur] Bakhtiar, as well as expressing considerable anger towards the students who occupied the U.S. embassy, labeled him a spy, and subsequently detained, interrogated, and tried him. The book also discusses the influence of revolutionary forces and clergy. Some parts contain incorrect information due to ignorance or other reasons. I also read part of Mr. Abbas Salimi-Namin's writing in Preserving Truth, critiquing the memoirs of Ayatollah Montazeri.

Israel continues its propaganda and intimidation against Iran, and after expressing dissatisfaction with the United States for not confirming Israel's accusations, the U.S. joined Israel today, with [Colin Powell], the U.S. Secretary of State, reiterating claims about arms shipments from Iranian ports. Palestinian fighters effectively killed four Israeli soldiers and wounded several others, prompting Israel to retaliate as usual.

In Afghanistan, criticism of America's bullying and the submission of the interim government is gradually increasing. Three Taliban ministers have surrendered, and the U.S. is demanding their handover. A representative of Turkey's Saadet Party in Parliament has suggested that the Islamic world should take the Kaaba from Saudi Arabia and place it under the control of all Muslims. These remarks were made in response to Saudi Arabia's destruction of a fortress built by the Ottomans two hundred years ago.

The Malaysian government has handed over Mr. [Duterte Noor] Misuwari, the leader of the Muslim rebels in the Philippines [Moro National Liberation Front], to the Philippines. In France, [Jacques] Chirac is facing pressure from his opponents, accused of paying ransom to Iran in the past for the release of French hostages in Lebanon. The cold weather in Eastern Europe has caused the Danube River to freeze and halted shipping.
