Members of the Central Council of the Independent Students' Union and moderates came and said that over the past two years, they have achieved excellent success at Islamic Azad University, but recently Mr. [Abdollah] Jassbi, [the president of Islamic Azad University], and particularly Mr. Siyadi, Jassbi's advisor, have been treating them poorly, and they sought help.

Dr. [Abbas] Sheibani came. He suggested that there should be a more tolerant approach towards the members of the Freedom Movement and talked about the difficult conditions in Khorramshahr due to drought and recession.

In the evening, I had an interview with the Baqir al-Ulum Political Science Faculty regarding the characteristics of human beings. Today, the parliament, based on the resolution of the Expediency Council yesterday, voted for two legal members of the Guardian Council, but did not achieve an absolute majority. Then, in a re-vote, they were elected with a weak relative majority, receiving about 60 votes out of 242; more than 160 votes were blank.

In the Philippines, an agreement was reached between the government and the [Islamic militant] Abu Sayyaf group.
