The night before, in Nepal, it seems the Crown Prince of the King carried out a shooting in a royal family gathering, killing the King, the Queen, and seven other members of the royal family. He also shot himself and is severely injured, rendering him unable to perform his duties as the legal successor to the King. His uncle has taken on the responsibilities of the King as his deputy.

Yesterday's newspapers reported that during an election meeting of the Office for Consolidating Unity at Hosseinieh Jamaran, attended by Seyyed Mohammad Khatami and Sheikh Mehdi Karroubi, a confrontation and scuffle broke out between the two factions of the consolidation, leading Khatami and Karroubi to leave the meeting. However, in last night’s leadership meeting, Khatami and Karroubi stated that the conflict occurred after their departure.

Yesterday, the UN Security Council extended the [oil-for-food] sanctions against Iraq once again. In response, Iraq has halted its oil exports, raising concerns of an explosion in oil prices. Saudi Arabia has announced that it will compensate for the shortage. Yasser Arafat, the President of the Palestinian Authority, under pressure from the U.S. and Israel, has ordered the Palestinians to cease fire against the Israelis, but it is predicted that they will not comply with his order.

A group from the Ninava Cultural Institute came; they are free seminary students and have plans for cultural activities related to the freedom-seekers. They raised complaints about the Free People's Affairs Headquarters and requested assistance, so I donated half a million tomans. Mr. Etemadi mentioned that after my last sermon, he dreamt that the Imams had gifted me a grand robe.

Mr. Abdul Majid Ma’adi Kharqi, the head of the Foundation for the History of the Revolution, came and provided a report on the progress of the construction permission for the History Foundation. I urged them to prepare to document the history of the revolution. He suggested that a dialogue be initiated with the individuals who had registered for the presidency. I explained the issues at hand.

The families of the martyrs from Varamin came. Mr. Hossein Nouh Abadi, the representative of Varamin, reported, and I also spoke, referencing Varamin's role in the events of June 15.

In the evening, I went to the mausoleum of the Imam for a speech at the memorial ceremony for Imam Khomeini's passing. In the waiting room, a number of reformists gathered, and the result from Mr. Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi Bejnourdi was discussed. He mentioned that Mr. Ahmad Tavakkoli, a presidential candidate, had been very extreme during the early revolution in Behshahr as the revolutionary prosecutor, executing many and confiscating property without legal grounds. The Worker’s House has also published an open letter criticizing Tavakkoli’s actions during his tenure as Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.
