It contains many important and unsaid contents, including Khomeini's decision to step down from the leadership when accepting Resolution 598.Mohsen Hashemi wrote: "I present to the dear audience a part of the memoirs of Hashemi Rafsanjani in the last years of his life, which he wrote himself and which would normally be published years later. He wrote in his daily diary on April 2, 2015, about 20 months before his death after the signing of the declaration of the nuclear agreement in Lausanne and the country passing through the danger of war and sanctions:God willing, when these memories will be published after my death, in the way that we have been preparing and publishing the memories of the past twenty years, here it is necessary to write my role in order to be included in history because it is not possible to say it now. Since the beginning of the revolution, I have played important roles in the turning points of the revolution. Three of them are more important in my opinion.1- In the last days of the 9-year war with Iraq, it was clear that it was not expedient to continue the war. But despite the slogans of war until victory and the approval of the Imam, I played an important role as the commander of the war and the deputy of the commander in chief. And then in the meeting of the heads of forces, in the service of the Imam, we proved the impossibility of a military victory.Imam's problem was that with all those declarations that we will fight until the last person and the last drop of blood and until the sedition is resolved, how can we suddenly announce the acceptance of the resolution? And he added he will withdraw from the responsibility of leadership and let us manage. In response, I said: This makes the work more difficult and it is better for me to sign the resolution as the deputy commander in chief and war commander. And you try to protect my dignity, and with my sacrifice, the country, the people and the revolution will be saved. The Imam did not accept it with a compassionate opinion towards me and agreed to accept it himself, but they asked us to justify others.2- In the recent presidential elections, when the country had reached a deadlock and the fundamentalists were sure of their victory in continuing the path of Ahmadinejad, the people and authorities saw the only way in my candidacy. I did not agree. On the night of the last day of registration, I felt that I had suffered a tyranny.I decided to write my name and I registered at the Ministry of Interior on Saturday evening, and from there, a wave of people's happiness rose and shook the whole country within a few hours. Although the Guardian Council disqualified me with the insistence of Information Minister Moslehi on the pretext of old age, I put this huge wave of people behind Dr. Rouhani, who won, and the government was saved from the extremists. Moderation and hope prevailed. But the hard-liners did not clear the square and prevented the solution to the sanctions problem.3- On Saturday evening, when the results of the one-week Lausanne talks were to be announced the next day, both Rouhani and Zarif were wandering. At 3:45 in the afternoon, I went to Rouhani's office, and in a short time I convinced him to take action and I told him about the extremists' conspiracy, which he did not deny either. He also immediately convinced Zarif, the page turned and despair went away, and hope and decision came.
