I was at home. I studied the history of parties in the West and Iran, as well as the outcomes of the "Guadaloupe" conference in the final days of the Shah's regime. Reports indicate that 11 members of the American special forces present in northern Afghanistan have been detained around Mazar-i-Sharif. Neither the Taliban nor America have confirmed this, and the Taliban have stated that no American forces have been observed in the south. A Taliban spokesperson, returning from a week-long trip to Pakistan, has said that he brought a plan for a ceasefire and negotiations, which he will present to Pakistan. He mentioned that so far, 560 civilians have been killed due to bombings. The Taliban have returned grain storage facilities that were seized from World Food Organization aid groups two or three days ago. A lot of propaganda had been launched regarding the seizure of these storage facilities to provoke the needy people of Afghanistan.

Ultimately, Iran has been unable to establish the intended camps to assist refugees within Afghan territory, except for one camp in the area controlled by the Northern Alliance. The Taliban opposed this and are discussing the establishment of a camp on Iranian soil. The Northern Alliance announced that their name is not the Northern Coalition; they believe this name implies a limitation of their territory, and their actual title is "United Front," which includes all of Afghanistan.

Pressure from Israel on the Palestinians has increased in retaliation for the killing of [Rahavim] Ze’evi, the resigned Minister of Tourism. There are also murmurs of an attack on Syria and Lebanon, as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which has taken responsibility for his execution, is based in Syria. Concerns about the spread of anthrax have overshadowed the war in Afghanistan in the media.
