Gholamreza Takhti, the Olympic and world champion, and one of the most enduring figures in Iranian sports, was born on August 27, 1930, in Khaniabad, Tehran.

Takhti was not known merely as a wrestler. The image that remains of him in Iran's public memory is tied to concepts such as chivalry, humility, and social responsibility.

The Wrestling Federation has also commemorated the fifth of Shahrivar as Takhti's birthday.
