The death of Mahsa (Jina) Amini in the custody of the Guidance Patrol; the beginning of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement.

Mahsa (Jina) Amini, a 22-year-old woman from Saqqez, died in Kasra Hospital in Tehran three days after being arrested by the Guidance Patrol.

She had lost consciousness after being transferred to the Morality Police Center and was taken to the hospital.

Officials of the Islamic Republic attributed her death to medical problems; her family and human rights reports challenged this narrative and demanded an independent investigation. Amini's death sparked nationwide "Woman, Life, Freedom" protests in Iran.
