September 3, 2011, the flood of the Aradak River in Chenaran County (Razavi Khorasan Province) claimed dozens of lives and left hundreds of families homeless.

Images of collapsed homes and severed roads once again raised questions about crisis management, early warning systems, and infrastructure for dealing with natural disasters in Iran.
