Request for financial aid from Zahedi to Eisenhower after the coup.

Only a few days after the coup d'état of August 19 and the fall of Mohammad Mossadegh's government, Fazlollah Zahedi, the prime minister of the new government, wrote a letter to Dwight Eisenhower, the President of the United States, on August 25, 1953.

In his letter, Zahedi spoke of Iran's severe financial problems and requested American aid. Eisenhower responded by stating that the new Iranian government's request would be reviewed favorably and allowed the US ambassador to discuss financial assistance with Zahedi.

This correspondence is one of the important documents from the first days after the coup, as it shows that Zahedi's government, from its very first days, linked its political consolidation to an urgent need for American economic support.
