10 September 19801980

The withdrawal of Pahlavi-era banknotes by the Central Bank.

On September 10, 1980, the Central Bank of Iran announced that the process of collecting 200-rial banknotes bearing the image of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and the old 1-rial coins had begun, and the people had one month to exchange them.

This decision was made within the framework of new economic policies after the revolution and aimed at removing the symbols of the previous regime from the country's monetary system.

The exchange of old banknotes and coins was not only a technical economic measure but also a symbolic message about breaking with the past and establishing a new economic order.
