The opening of Amjadieh Stadium and the first football matches.

On that same day, September 3, but two years before the occupation, in 1939, Amjadieh Stadium was opened in Tehran, and the first official football matches were held there. This event, in appearance, was a sporting occasion, but in its historical context, it was a sign of the Pahlavi regime's effort to build a modern face for Iran on the eve of one of the greatest crises of the twentieth century.

Amjadieh quickly became a symbol of modern sport in Iran. For decades, it hosted historic matches and was the scene of political gatherings, pre-revolutionary protests, and even moments when the Iranian people, for the first time, made their collective voice heard by their rulers.

Today, only a memory of Amjadieh remains in the minds of older generations; a stadium that was demolished, but in the collective memory of Iranians, it still stands.
